After being introduced in early 2007, the Apple iPhone has become an iconic device everyone in the world either already owns or dreams of owning. Even though the first generations of the iPhone were very advanced for their time, Apple did not stop and kept launching new versions of the iPhone year after year. The complete lineup of the iPhone is pretty remarkable, and now you’re going to learn a bit about every iPhone ever released.
On January 9, 2007 the world of mobile phones has changed forever. Full touchscreen smartphones were not common in the market, which is why the release of the iPhone was so anticipated. It offered 4GB/8GB of storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, an accelerometer and a 2-megapixel camera.
The original iPhone had its flaws – for example, its camera was not as advanced as in other high-end smartphones of the era. But despite that users were smitten with the new iPhone. Its selection of useful applications and features converted millions of buyers all over the world into diehard iPhone fans.
The iPhone 3G
It took Apple only a year after the original iPhone’s release to introduce the launch of a new and improved iPhone – iPhone 3G. Not only was the new iPhone more technologically advanced, but it also boasted a reduced price tag, compared to what the buyers had to pay for the original iPhone in 2007.
Its main differences from the early version were the upgrade from 2.5G to 3G, a sleeker design, better improved battery life, and, most importantly, an access for third-party applications, something the first version of the iPhone couldn’t offer to its users.
The iPhone 3GS
Introduced in the summer of 2009, the iPhone 3GS was marketed as a faster version of the iPhone. With a processor upgrade, faster Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, a new 3-megapixel camera and improved graphics, the iPhone 3GS could accept any challenge.
Among the most important features introduced in the iPhone 3GS was a compass, MMS messaging, an improved search system, and voice recording. Another essential upgrade was the introduction of a voice control system, which would later turn into Siri.
The iPhone 4
The launch of the iPhone 4 in 2010 was the biggest upgrade the iPhone received since its debut in 2007. The new iPhone underwent a number of cosmetic changes, including a higher resolution Retina display, a glossy finish, and availability in two colours: black and white.
But not all of the changes in the iPhone 4 concerned its appearance. The launch of the iPhone 4 introduced a 5-megapixel camera, a front-facing camera, a brand new processor, and improved battery life. As for iOS 4, there were a few essential improvements: the introduction of spell check and multi-tasking features, as well as the ability to sort applications into folders.
The iPhone 4S
In the autumn of 2011 the new iPhone 4S was unveiled. Since there weren’t any major changes to the phone, the new version received the name 4S, rather than iPhone 5. The improvements included a few changes to the camera, free access to iCloud, and the launch of Siri, Apple’s first voice-controlled virtual assistant.
The iPhone 5
A year after the release of the iPhone 4S Apple felt the world was ready for a new iPhone 5. It boasted a reduced weight and slimmer size, while the screen has grown by 0.4 inches. The phone was made of glass and aluminium. The IPhone 5 was available in two basic colors, black and white. As for the hardware, the iPhone 5 had an improved front camera and a more advanced Lightning connector.
The iPhone 5S
The first thing you notice about the new iPhone 5S is the introduction of three new colors: Space Gray, Gold and Silver. But the changes don’t stop there! The launch of a 64-bit processor once again put Apple ahead of its competitors.
A lot of the iPhone 5S’s major improvements concerned the camera, which received a new image sensor, a dual-LED flash, a “burst mode”, which allows you to take 10 pictures in one second, and an ability to shoot panorama pictures. The fingerprint recognition system was introduced as well.
The iPhone 5C
The iPhone 5C was released at the same time as the iPhone 5S and was marketed as a low-cost iPhone. Instead of aluminium, the iPhone 5C was made of soft silicon rubber. The new phone was available in 5 colors: white, pink, yellow, blue and green.
The inside of the iPhone 5C didn’t change too much and resembled the other versions of the iPhone a lot.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
The latest iPhone creations were released in 2014 and had a number of radical changes compared to the old versions of the iPhone, most importantly the size: the iPhone 6 Plus reached 5.5” in its measurements. Technologically speaking, there are not too many differences between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. An improved camera, and updated iOS 8, advanced wireless technology and better battery life made the newest iPhone a top choice for smartphone buyers.
It’s obvious that Apple will never stop surprising us with the new iPhone versions. While Apple is getting ready to introduced its latest creations, you can buy your new iPhone on JiJi!
