Behavioral factor no. 1: “it just happened to be so”
Do you know a person who seeks to scrape his whole life? Of course not! And certainly, you don’t want to be one!
Our advice: believe in success, follow simple rules and don`t blame in your failures:
• tough times;
• economy and inflation;
• your age;
• bad or no education (in the end, there are lots of inexpensive universities, including the ones abroad, where you can get a great education);
You can`t change most of these things – therefore, thinking of them as of the reasons of your failures, you stuck at one point and don`t move on. The world doesn`t revolve around you – you have to adjust to it in order to achieve your goals!
Behavioral factor no. 2: want to fail – tell your friends about your goals
We think that there is nothing wrong to share your plans with family and friends. But we don`t know the truth! There is a psychological term named “visualization of achievement point”. It works like this: when you “paint” the point in which you intend to be in a couple of months “in all colors”, you subconsciously experience this time and your brain starts to fool itself – as if aim is already half done. It makes you less motivated and diligent.
Conclusion: first, get the goal at least in half, and then tell others about your success – in the end, there will be something to share at that time!
Behavioral factor no. 3: “when I will have …”
This behavior poses two problems:
1. You set the goal that is not definite in time. That is, you set the goal which you can move to over years and now your life is only a preparation for its achievement. You can stuck for yeas at this point of preparation! It is better to set yourself a deadline – and to keep this promise to yourself.
For example, you shouldn`t think “when I buy a car…” – your thought should be I`ll buy a car in 3 months, or instead of “when I rent a bigger apartment…” – I`ll buy my own apartment within a year (even though a small one).
2. The second problem of such behavior is that you set the goal, but when you achieve it, you may realize that money you earned is not enough, and the job you received is not prospective. Therefore, we advise you: don`t set final goals – let it be half-way goals. Then you will have a motif to constantly move forward!
Behavioral factor no. 4: “Intellectual development is my primary way to succeed”
It is great to be smart and knowledgeable. But this is not the only thing that helps to succeed. How often have you thought of the fact that your boss, who is not as smart as you, had achieved more than you had?
Psychologists know that intellegent people, being great executives, might stuck at prospectless jobs, because they easily “break” under pressure. Smart people have an advantage – a big amount of working memory. And even though this capacity helps to succeed, they can fail quicker than others. The point is that smart people are less pushing, and not all of them have the ability to protect their ideas and to set their own rigid requirements.
The results of a study shows that this theory is more than true. Two groups of people with different IQ held a test. First test was held in ordinary conditions, and “nerds” showed much better results. During the second test they told the groups that their results would be checked by a professor. This time both groups showed bad results. Stress situation canceled the differences between their results. That happened because stress situations affect the part of a brain that is responsible for working memory – that is why “nerds” are more sensitive to stress.
Behavioral factor no. 5: “Do I need this?”
The problem is that a person wants to do only stuff that promise a clear value. But the truth is that there are lots of things in career that require playing a long game. Helping colleagues without a clear value for yourself (you can be a hundred percent sure John will pay you for the favour), attending corporative parties (your boss will be happy that you show yourself from the best side of your social life), studying for self-improvement (you may need this knowledge the next day).
Lot of things bring benefit – but we do not always see it! Therefore, you should not limit yourself obtaining short-term values – you need to think of a prospect.
